Human resource are a company’s principal assets

Every business requires specific assets for its functioning depending upon their core competencies, whether it is financial, infrastructural, operational or technological. However, the biggest asset for any business is its manpower or human resource (HR). Business houses all over, whether it is Nokia or Ikea, have to meet their manpower needs effectively, in order to perform their operations.

In a country like India, where fierce competition persists, corporates have very little time or money to do everything by themselves. As such, the latest trend in the market is to outsource the HR needs to various consulting agencies all over the country. These manpower recruitment agencies provide both online as well as offline platforms for the corporates to satisfy their staffing needs.

Online recruitment agencies

With the developments in technology, online manpower consultants today contribute resourcefully to the corporates’ success. So prominent has been their presence that many major industries have registered an upward trend in employees recruited through online HR consultants. Several industries registered an upward growth trend in FY 2013–14, through online recruitment, namely retail, healthcare and life sciences, real estate, non-government organisations (NGOs), and information technology (IT).

Typical human resource functions

Business houses usually deal with the following types of human resource functions:

  • Performing job analysis and drafting job descriptions according to the requirements
  • Recruitment and selection, which involves organising different types of interview processes to test the applicants’ capabilities
  • Determining wages and salaries for the candidates depending on the current market scenario and the company’s financial capabilities
  • Negotiating the terms and contracts of the company with the candidates and also solving their grievances
  • Manpower planning, which involves forecasting the future staffing requirements of a company

Generally, it has been seen that all major corporates outsource the above mentioned HR needs to manpower consultants for the ease of time and cost management.

Methodologies of recruitment consultancies

Having obtained the initial contract from their clients, i.e., corporate houses, HR consultants conduct the following methodologies for recruitment:

  • Identify position-specific competencies – includes job title, deliverables, main responsibilities, and other relevant details
  • Target plan – formulate a plan to target desired candidates
  • Identify industry – from which it shall be most suitable to select the candidates
  • First shortlist – develop an initial database of prospective recruits
  • Evaluate – contact candidates and encourage their interest in a particular position; evaluate them by various methods, including tests and interviews to match the suitable profile with the position
  • Reference check – undertake reference checks after shortlisting prospective recruits in order to verify their authenticity
  • Final selection – inform clients about the most suitable candidates that have been shortlisted

Trend setters in the recruitment consultant scenario

With their innovative approach and futuristic outlook, they had, at a very early stage, recognised the potential of various sectors like NGO and retail, and added these to their repertoire.
